Neotel data-centre problem causes MWEB ADSL downtime
For the second day in a row MWEB ADSL subscribers sat without international connectivity. The downtime yesterday was caused by a dual fibre break between MWEB and Neotel, cutting MWEB off from its SEACOM bandwidth.
“The two backhaul links that connect our data centre in Victory Park (where our IPC node in the North terminates) to the Neotel data centre in Midrand have been damaged. The effect is that we lost access to our Seacom bandwidth,” said MWEB ISP CEO Derek Hershaw.
This downtime lasted for around 90 minutes before connectivity was restored by MWEB’s fibre infrastructure partner Dark Fibre Africa (DFA).
MWEB subscribers again experienced international connectivity issues today, which started shortly after midday. This time problems at Neotel’s data centre in Midrand seem to be the cause.
“We lost access to our Seacom bandwidth for about 15-20 minutes, just after 12H00. The problem was at the Neotel data centre in Midrand, we’re still waiting for the full Incident Report to confirm exactly what happened,” said Hershaw.
Neotel was contacted for feedback, but the company did not respond by the time of publication. Neotel could also not be reached by telephone.
