Vodacom network problems caused by cable break

Numerous Vodacom subscribers started experiencing network problems at around 10:30 on Friday, 17 June 2011, affecting both voice and data services.

Vodacom’s Richard Boorman confirmed that voice and data subscribers in some areas in Gauteng were influenced by the network problems today.

Initial feedback suggests that a cable break in the Germiston area is to blame for the network problems.

The break was apparently caused by a construction works contractor not associated with Vodacom.

The cable break seems to be severe, which means that a full cable replacement is needed to restore this part of the network.

Traffic is now being re-routed around the affected cable which means that services in the affected areas are coming back online.

Vodacom apologized for the inconvenience, reassuring their customers that their network team is working as fast as they can to repair all services.
