Telkom VDSL pricing uncertainty
Managing executive of networks and wholesale at Telkom, Bashier Sallie, said that they would be charging a different price for their very-high-bit-rate digital subscriber line (VDSL) trial services, but stopped short of revealing the price.
Telkom Group CEO, Nombulelo “Pinky” Moholi, said in a press briefing ahead of their SATNAC event held in George this year (2012) that part of the trial was to test the cost assumptions they had made.
In an interview with Steven White, the managing executive for converged business services at Telkom he said that there is no retail component to the pilot.
This means that White was not at liberty to discuss pricing, and that questions in this regard are best directed at Sallie.

White explained that the trial was there to test the technology and get customer feedback to see what improvements can be made.
However, it will be charged for commercially to test customer acquisition.
Sallie previously said that Telkom would invite customers from its Internet service provider (ISP) TelkomInternet on a one-on-one basis to participate in the trial.
This won’t happen at a retail level it seems, with White saying that when there is a retail component all the other ISPs will be informed.
It won’t take too long to announce what prices are going to be, White said.
