Seacom cable break update
Seacom announced in a press statement today (15 April 2013) that the cable break that has plagued it since 22 March 2013 is expected to be fixed early next week.
“The repair vessel has been commissioned to the repair site and…the estimated time of repair is 22 April 2013,” Seacom said.
“This [repair date] will be confirmed once the vessel reaches the location of the expected break and the team has assessed the damage to the subsea cable system.”
Seacom experienced a major outage last month when a number of partner cables in the Mediterranean Sea went offline due to breaks in the cables.
By 30 March 2013 Seacom announced that it had secured enough capacity on other routes to fully restore the services of their customers.
These customers include Internet service providers (ISPs) and companies that provide services to ISPs.
Seacom has warned that dates are subject to change depending on weather conditions, and that they will provide updates as further information becomes available.
