Neotel increases coverage, user base
Neotel today announced that it has surpassed the R 2.5-billion mark in terms of consolidated annualized revenue for the operating year. The company said it is confident that it is on track to surpass R 3-billion in revenue this year.
This revenue growth comes on the back of a strong investment in network growth and customer acquisition. Neotel CEO Ajay Pandey said that the company has already invested R 3.5-billion in its network, and will continue to aggressively increase its CDMA, WiMAX and Fibre footprint.
Pandey said that Neotel recently surpassed the 200 CDMA base station mark, and despite facing challenges in site acquisition in coastal regions – and specifically the Western Cape – the operator is confident that its fast network expansion will continue seamlessly.
Neotel is focusing strongly on its WiMAX service aimed at small and medium sized businesses, and has recently launched a symmetrical 2 Mbps WiMAX offering. The company currently has 75 WiMAX towers with plans to further expand their coverage.
To date Neotel targeted Gauteng, Cape Town and Durban, but Pandey said that they are planning to launch both CDMA and WiMAX services in Pietermaritzburg, East London, Port Elizabeth and Stellenbosch.
Neotel currently has over 30 000 NeoConect and NeoFlex subscribers, with a target of 50 000 by the end of the year. Pandey added that around 60% of subscribers are using their data products while the remainder signed up for their voice offering.
Pandey further indicated that the company’s recently launched NeoGo data card is proving popular with sales surpassing 1 000 cards over the last few weeks.
To increase awareness around the Neotel brand and its product offerings the company has also opened its first retail store in Cedar Square in Fourways with three more stores planned in Pretoria, Cape Town and Durban.
