New DStv prices kick in
MultiChoice announced in February it would increase the price of most DStv bouquets from 1 April 2015.
The pay TV operator reviews its pricing structure every year, usually resulting in an increase in subscription fees for many DStv packages and add-ons.
DStv Premium subscribers will now pay R699 per month for the service, up from R665 per month.
DStv Extra subscribers will pay R425 – up from R399 – while DStv Compact users will fork out R319 per month, up from R295.
DStv Family and DStv Select subscribers will pay R199 per month for their service – up from the current R185 per month.
DStv Access remains unchanged at R99 per month, but DStv Easyview increases from R29 per month to R39 per month. DStv Mobile’s pricing remains unchanged at R49 per month.
The new DStv prices are summarised in the table below.

As the graph above shows, increases in subscription fees for DStv Premium usually keep pace with inflation.
Besides the price hikes, MultiChoice also announced changes to the online streaming service features available to Premium subscribers.
Going forward, Premium subscribers will not be able to access streaming video services without an active personal video recorder (PVR).
Subscribers already can’t access DStv Catch Up without an active PVR, while access to SuperSport live streaming will be restricted in the same way from 11 April 2015.
Multichoice said the change is based on the fact that the streaming service is an extension of the PVR experience.
