DStv Box Office in the pipeline?

In May this year MultiChoice launched its revamped DStv ON Demand service which is available through any of the DStv PVR decoders.

The first DStv ON Demand offering is essentially a ‘catch up’ service for TV series and sports highlights at a time that is convenient to them. It is available to Premium subscribers only and the first phase of the service is free.

MultiChoice also launched a Video On Demand (VOD) service which currently offers subscribers approximately 20 additional hours of premium content each month for free.  This logical next step is obviously a paid-for video on demand where subscribers can rent content.

MultiChoice hinted previously that they are planning a ‘video rental’ and paid video-on-demand service on its DStv platform, and it has now emerged that the company is trialing a Box Office service.

Speculation suggests that MultiChoice is planning to launch a DStv Box Office service where subscribers can rent movies which have not been shown on DStv yet and watch it at home.

According to one source the new DStv Box Office will form part of the DStv ON Demand platform, but the exact details remain sketchy.  Pricing guidelines are also not know.

MultiChoice would also not give more details about this service, merely saying that they do not wish to comment on the DStv Box Office service at this time.

“When MultiChoice is ready to launch new services or channels, we will make the necessary announcements to the media,” said a MultiChoice spokesperson.
