DA protests outside the SABC

A small group of Democratic Alliance supporters gathered outside of the SABC’s Auckland Park buildings on Tuesday, calling for the removal of COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng.

The group held signs reading “Hlaudi must go” and “Stop the ‘sANc’.”

Speaking at the event, DA leader Mmusi Maimane said that Motsoeneng only wanted good news to be broadcast on television.

“Imagine if it was 1976 and he was in charge. We would never have known about the Soweto uprisings,” Maimane said.

Maimane said that their problem was not just with Motsoeneng, but also President Jacob Zuma.

“Jacob en Hlaudi moet gaan (Jacob and Hlaudi must go),” he added.

DA Gauteng leader John Moodey said Motsoeneng, and other people trying to censor the SABC, were like ostriches.

“Ons is mos nie dom nie (We are not dumb). They are ostriches. You know what an ostrich does when he senses danger? He stick his head in the sand.”
