MultiChoice – getting more subscribers, making more money

MultiChoice has released its results for the six months ended 30 September 2016, which show an increase in revenue and subscribers.
The company – which runs the DStv, M-Net, SuperSport, and GOtv brands – reported an increase in revenue to R19.4 billion.
“Significant increases” in content costs consumed the revenue growth, though, said the company. This resulted in a 2% trading profit increase to R5.1 billion.
R3.3 billion was paid in direct and indirect taxes, making MultiChoice one of the largest taxpayers in the country, it said.
Subscriber growth
The company said its customer base grew by 316,000 during the period, bringing the total subscriber number to over 6 million for the first time.
