DStv to drop two channels: report
MultiChoice will soon be dropping Bloomberg TV and the MK music channel from its bouquets, according to a report on Channel24.
While the stand-alone channels will be discontinued in South Africa, Channel24 went on to report that viewers will still be able to access the content.
Bloomberg TV will remain available to the rest of Africa on a 24-hour channel, but in South Africa the newly rebranded Business Day Television (formerly Summit TV) will screen Bloomberg content from 07:00 to 12:00, 16:00 to 18:00, and 23:00 to 03:00.
In a press statement announcing the rebranding of Summit TV, Business Day and Bloomberg said that the stand-alone Bloomberg TV channel would be available until 1 July 2013.
MK is set to be removed from DStv at the end of July 2013, Channel24 reported, but will become an online music video streaming channel operating from mktv.co.za.
MultiChoice also announced in its forum last week (11 June 2013) that MK was added to the DStv audio bouquet.
Update: MultiChoice has confirmed the details of the report around Bloomberg Television, but explained that it couldn’t provide comment on M-Net’s behalf regarding the termination of MK. MultiChoice provided the following statement on the changes to the Bloomberg and Summit Television channels:
The creation of Businesss Day TV from Summit, presented an opportunity to create a single business channel with great local business programming from Summit, and great international news and programming from Bloomberg. DStv customers will benefit from the merging of the two channels with both local and international business content now located on a single business channel – Business Day TV.
This partnership with Business Day TV means that Bloomberg viewers will still be able to watch many of their favourite shows on channel 412. And in fact, more DStv customers will now have access to Bloomberg programming as Bloomberg was only available to DStv Premium customers, whereas Business Day TV is available to Family, Compact and Premium customers.
