Mobile calls at 99c per minute
First National Bank’s internet service provider, FNB Connect, today announced that they are offering all mobile calls at 99 cents per minute until February 2010.
“FNB Connect has decided to take up consumer interests by helping them with dramatically reduced cellular call costs through its Talk packages, following the interconnect rate reduction negotiations amongst the major cellular network operators,” the company said in a press statement.
“FNB Connect has heeded the calls of both the South African Government and the average consumer for a review on call rates charged to consumers. As consumer champions, and in living up to our brand promise of ‘helpfulness’, we are taking the lead by offering all FNB customers on ConnectChat and ConnectXtra mobile calls at 99c per minute,” says Michael Jordaan, Chief Executive Officer, First National Bank.
“With immediate effect, all FNB ConnectChat and ConnectXtra clients, as well as those who sign up for any of these packages, will have the ability to save on their calls by accessing this benefit,” adds Jordaan.
This offer reduces the present call rates of R1.59 on ConnectXtra and R1.79 on ConnectChat to 99 cents per minute. The offer extends to calls to any mobile numbers in South Africa. This is in addition to calls to other FNB Connect customers, which remain free on ConnectXtra.
“In keeping with Communications Minister Siphiwe Nyada’s call ‘ordering the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) to take urgent action to reduce cellphone interconnection rates by the end of November’, FNB Connect through its commitment to innovation is showing South African consumers that cheaper call rates are indeed possible. We are happy to lead the way in saying hello for less and acting on Governments call by offering competitive rates,” said Luis Simoes, recently appointed Chief Executive Officer of FNB Connect.
