Fixed rate with Vodacom roaming

From 1 December 2009, Vodacom Contract customers travelling abroad will be able to pay a fixed rate for Voice, Data and SMS with Vodacom’s three new Vodafone World Zones. These predictable rates should help subscribers with what to expect on their bill.

Vodacom’s partnership with Vodafone also means that Contract customers automatically qualify for a 10% discount on all calls made when roaming on selected partner networks.  Vodacom added that their customers qualify for a ‘reduced Super-Saver data rate’ of R17.50 per MB of data used, when roaming on a selected Vodacom or Vodafone partner network.

Vodacom’s three roaming services available to Vodacom Contract customers are Vodafone World, Vodafone Passport and SMS Roamer.

Vodafone World is the default roaming option for Vodacom Contract customers and allows customers to keep track of how much they’re spending. In terms of data roaming, Vodacom’s Contract customers are charged according to the World Zone they are visiting, at a fixed South African Rand rate per MB of data used.

Shameel Joosub, Managing Director of Vodacom South Africa, said the new roaming rates will provide Vodacom Contract customers with great value when travelling and the simple rates are easy to understand.

“For instance with Vodafone World, on selected Vodacom and Vodafone partner networks, Vodacom will offer Contract customers who are roaming a 10% discount on calls which are made locally, back to South Africa or to other international destinations,” said Joosub.

“With Vodafone Passport customers can choose to make local calls or calls back to South Africa at their local South African peak, off-net, mobile terminating call rate after paying a once-off connection fee of R17.50 per call.”

SMS Roamer lets customers stay in touch via SMS only – disabling all voice and data functions until the service is deactivated on return.  With SMS Roamer, there’s no monthly subscription charge and one, predictable SMS rate for Contract customers of R2.75 per SMS sent regardless of the destination.
