Vodacom network disruptions

A cable break caused by road construction between Halfway House and Midrand earlier today is affecting Vodacom services in Midrand, Sandton and Woodmead.  A network notice explains that “All service connectivity to Vodacom Midrand campus is affected by link failure.  The notice reads: “Cable was damaged by Road Contractors and Telkom is attending.”

Vodacom said that while the cable breaks affect 2G services, all 3G services are working as expected.  The absence of 2G services however means that subscribers with 3G devices are using the 3G network for voice and data traffic which caused a spike in traffic and possible congestion on the network.

Vodacom said that five teams are currently working to resolve this problem, and that customers will be informed as soon as the cable break is restored.
