Vodacom recharge prize delays

Vodacom last week launched its ‘Win Every Time’ promotional campaign, promising all Prepaid and Top Up customers who recharge with a R29 voucher or more that they will win one of more than 20 million prizes.

“From 11 February until 2 May, every time a Prepaid or Top Up customer recharges with a R29 voucher or more they automatically qualify to  win –  airtime, Mango flights or Bafana jerseys, HP laptops, Pick ’n Pay gift cards, Samsung cellphones, LiveTrack, NightShift, Data Bundles, MMS Bundles or SMS Bundles,” Vodacom said in a press statement. “In addition, every week one Vodacom customer, who recharged with a R29 voucher or more, will be entered into a draw to win R150 000!”

Numerous consumers however complained that they did not receive any prizes as promised by Vodacom.  “I recharged/topped though my bank online and still nothing. Is this just a scam Vodacom?” asked one consumer today.  “Got an SMS this morning explaining that I should SMS ‘WIN’ to 31118 to claim my prize – did that; but still waiting for the next SMS,” complained another.

Vodacom has now acknowledged that there is a problem with their system due to the high number of participants.  “Due to the overwhelming participation in Vodacom’s Win Every Time campaign, some Vodacom customers who have recharged with R29 or more, may have experienced a delay in receiving their voucher number via SMS, confirming that they’ve won a prize,” said Nicolene Visser, Vodacom’s Executive Head of Corporate Communications.

“We are working to resolve the delay in the system to ensure that winners are able to claim their prizes, and want to thank the winners for their patience. We want to reassure our customers that their prizes are guaranteed,” said Visser.
