MTN working on fix for massive data outage
MTN has confirmed it was hit with data connectivity issues at around 14:00 on 5 May.
“Engineers are still busy investigating the issue and have established some level of stability but the investigations are still ongoing,” said MTN.
This comes after MTN clients reported connectivity problems on the operator’s mobile data network.
Afrihost was also affected by the outage, and informed its subscribers they may experience limited or no connectivity.
MTN said its network is recovering, so services will be restored intermittently.
Update: Data centre equipment error
MTN provided an update on its downtime at 11:30 on 6 May.
MTN can confirm that the data connection issue has been resolved and data services have been restored. The customers that were affected by the intermittent connectivity issue included MTN Business corporate clients.
During the process of a planned migration of data centre equipment an error occurred, which resulted in the data connectivity issue.
MTN wishes to sincerely apologise to its customers for any inconvenience the connectivity disruption may have caused.
