Cell C launches cheapest per-MB data bundle pricing
Cell C launched its new 21 Mbps HSPA+ network in Gauteng in mid-November, following similar launches in Port Elizabeth, Bloemfontein, Durban, Cape Town, East London, Pietermaritzburg, Witbank, Richards Bay, Polokwane, Nelspruit and George.
At the time Cell C also announced the launch of its new mobile data bundles with the following pricing: R50 for 100MB, R100 for 250MB, R150 for 500MB, R250 for 1GB and R400 for 2GB.
These data bundle prices are competitive on the low end, but less competitive on the high end, that is for 1GB and 2GB bundles.
MyBroadband members were quick to criticize Cell C for their uncompetitive prices on 1GB and 2GB data bundles, and the company swiftly took the feedback to heart.
Cell C CEO Lars Reichelt said that members of MyBroadband and customers who submitted comments via the TellTrevor site, helped them to realize that they had made a mistake with their data bundle pricing, and he thanked consumers for their feedback and for guiding the company in this regard.
He said Cell C, as a customer-centric organisation will continue to take the comments and suggestions of customers to heart.
New Cell C high end data bundles
Cell C has now boosted their high end data bundles, adding 200MB to their 1GB data bundle and 1GB to their 2GB data bundle free of charge. The new pricing means that Cell C is now significantly cheaper than both Vodacom and MTN on all their data bundle offerings.
Another development is that all the data bundles size options are available to both contract and prepaid customers.

At R0.13 per MB Cell C’s new data bundle pricing is the most affordable offering ever launched in South Africa which may put more pressure on MTN and Vodacom to respond.
For customers looking to make a larger up-front investment Cell C’s prepaid 12-month offerings – priced at a once-off R999 for 2GB a month for a year or R1,999 for 5GB each month for a year – still provides unrivalled value for money.
Promotional modem inclusive packages are also still available, offering the same monthly data for a year with a 7.2 Mbps or 21 Mbps modem included for R1,499 and R2,999 respectively.
