Cell C launches cheapest ever per-MB mobile data bundle pricing in SA

Well done Cell C for responding so quickly to consumer demands, and for shaving off 25% from the lowest per-MB rate offered by competitors. Nice that there are now too many players to simply follow the set pricing structures - especially with Cell C not playing ball :D

Just the fact that they listen and respond to the consumer is verging on the bloody miraculous. Well done CellC.

I hope the rest of the twits in the industry catch a wake up soon.

well done Cell C......not everyday you see companies listening to the public and responding.
A step in the right direction.....

Now we just need cell c to offer the iPad at a decent price ;)

Dont think that will happen, cause the ipad is not UMTS 900 capable hence Cell C data sims wont work on the ipad....

Cell C CEO Lars Reichelt said that members of MyBroadband and customers who submitted comments via the TellTrevor site, helped them to realize that they had made a mistake with their data bundle pricing, and he thanked consumers for their feedback and for guiding the company in this regard.

Like the CEO said at the launch, they do listen to what people say at Tell Trevor site.

So to the guys that took the time to send the messages to the site, well done, your voice has been heard.

It's not perfect, but it's a step in the right direction.

Cell C takes mybb serious, well done to Cell C, you still have my vote.

Thank you to all the folks at MyBB who complained and managed to get CellC to put a better deal on the Table. ;)

a big BOO to all you that smiled and bent over the barrel willingly, that tends to keep prices high.

now CellC have restored a little bit of confidence again, more users will join them, CellC will make more money, we will pay less, CellC will grow, Competitors will lower prices due to the competition, so on and so forth.
This is what some of us call a Win-win,win-win win win win situation.

This is great, I just dont understand why the modem deals are so much cheaper than the bundles? I would like to combine my voice cell c sim with a data sim and just pay R999.99 and get 2GB added on my normal cell c sim, it's like you are being punished for already having a conract...

I wish people would stop saying let's watch how the competition will respond but just drop them regardless. They don't deserve our support after all the high prices they've made us pay all these years just because they can!

It's not as simple as that - lots of people are tied into contracts so a price reduction by the competitors would benefit them as they can't just hop over to Cell C [yet].

This is a good move; nonetheless, I have this worrying feeling that what will happen is that next year Vodacrap and MTN will drop their prices to about the same level, and then nobody's prices will move for the next several years, simply making these the new 'standard' overly-expensive data rates, rather than a price war. Hopefully this new competition from Cell C combined with the launch of 8ta will provide some competitive pressure though. But an all-out price war isn't likely to cause major changes in market percentages, and if they all aim for say a quarter of the market each and put the calculation into their projection models "25% of the market, at these prices" they may just all decide to leave it comfortably there.

I have one Cell C requrest and im there like a bear. Cheaper text message like 8ta and Virgin are offering. plx. I sent around 300 sms messages per month. It's so great never to worry bout text messages on those two networks.

Virgin is fine for calling, their signal is much weaker for some reason, I get the feeling when set to default only uses the Cell C GSM network. You are able to force it to Vodacom using Virgin, maybe then GSM coverage would be better? I was under the impression though Cell C had a very good GSM coverage by now. I just know ive been in a few places where MTN and Vodacom were perfect but I cant get a slight grasp of a Virgin signal every so often.

Data Virgin is lacking, simple as that. Network feels like it only gets 1% of Cell C's data network allocation. Seriously. No frills network, guess thats how it works hey. The Virgin way.

I would suspect that Cell C is picking up serious market share - my main worry is how this will impact on their performance !
