Cell C solves 21 Mbps modem shortage
MyBroadband caught wind of complaints that the Cell C stores in Northern Johannesburg had all run out of USB modems.
When Cell C first launched its HSPA+ network in Port Elizabeth last year, the operator unveiled competitively priced broadband packages to go with it.
These include a bundle comprising of a 7.2 Mbps (Megabit per second) HSPA modem and 2GB (Gigabytes) of data per month for 12 months for R1,499, as well as a 21.1 Mbps HSPA+ modem with 5GB of data per month for 12 months for R2,999.
Similar annual bundles that exclude the modems are also available at R999 for 2GB per month and R1999 for 5GB per month.
The packages came in significantly cheaper than those of every other broadband provider in South Africa when compared in terms of total cost over 12 months.
However, Cell C had made it clear that the pricing of their data bundles was a promotional offer to accompany their launch and wouldn’t necessarily become their permanent pricing model.
In light of this the stock shortage in Northern Johannesburg raised concerns that Cell C’s data promotions might be coming to an end.
This doesn’t seem to be the case as Cell C have confirmed that the stock shortage was temporary. A Cell C spokesperson said that stock should be available again.
