3D smartphone in SA soon

LG recently sent out a press release to tease the unveiling of their new Optimus 3D handset at the Mobile World Congress to be held in Barcelona later this month.

According to the release, the device will feature a display capable of displaying 3D images without the need for glasses, as well as a dual-lens camera that will allow for stereoscopic 3D recording.

Phandroid reported that the device’s 3D display will probably measure 4.3” diagonally based on photos sent to them by an “anonymous tipster.”

They also said that the device will have a dual core system-on-a-chip (SoC, commonly called a “processor” when referring to smartphones or tablets) such as the Nvidia Tegra 2 which is to be used in the Optimus X2, as well as multi-channel RAM.

LG South Africa has since confirmed that the Optimus 3D will be coming to South Africa in June 2011.

The recommended pricing of the device wasn’t available by the time of publication.
