8ta iPad data plans
8ta today announced it will offer dedicated data plans for the iPad with Wi-Fi + 3G in South Africa beginning 4 February 2011.
8ta’s data plans offer access to its 3G data network and all data plans will be available without a contract, providing the freedom to activate or cancel a plan at any time.
Amith Maharaj, Managing Executive of 8ta said: “The prepaid data bundles will be offered at a preferential rate that is exclusive to iStore sales of the device. 8ta post paid data bundles for the iPad will be offered at a later stage.”
“This announcement reinforces 8ta’s promise to launch new and exciting products to our customers and is the result of the flexibility of our new generation all IP core network and a very passionate and focused team.,” continued Maharaj.
“South African consumers have been anticipating the local unveiling of this exciting device and we are proud to be selected as the preferred data provider. We look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship with Apple,” Maharaj concluded.
iPad data prices
8ta launched three basic data plans for the iPad:
- 512MB for R120
- 1GB for R160
- 3GB for R299
These prepaid iPad data bundles are valid until the end of the following calendar month, and all bundles carry an out-of-bundle rate of R1.00 per MB.
iPad users will be required to register on the 8ta iPad Web portal to purchase iPad data bundles and to redeem their recharge vouchers online.
The iPad portal will also allow iPad users to view their balances, redeem their airtime vouchers and purchase an iPad once-off Internet data bundle at any given time.
The data bundles are only on offer at iStores.
