Crystal Web Mobile – APN issues resolved

Crystal Web launched its mobile service in February – offering customers access to Vodacom’s last-mile mobile network, which then breaks out to the Internet through Crystal Web.

Vodacom customers are able to switch to Crystal Mobile by changing their APN details.

Certain customers said they experienced issues connecting to the Crystal Web APN following the launch, with their Vodacom data being consumed when a session was initiated.

Crystal Web CEO Shaun Kaplan said if a client’s Vodacom data is being used, as opposed to their Crystal Web data, it is because they are not connected to the correct APN.

“There was an issue for a few customers when we initially launched where some contract customers were not provisioning over the Vodacom network correctly,” said Kaplan.

“This was widespread and didn’t only impact Crystal Web. However, the timing was certainly unfortunate.”

“This was resolved by Vodacom in a few days and there have not been any new issues since,” he said.

Kaplan said their mobile offering is a new product and they have identified that certain staff members are not “as comfortable with the support process as we’d like them to be”.

“As management, we personally noted these concerns and monitored for areas we can improve, and have already embarked on additional training for all client-facing staff in this regard.”
