Cell C Prepaid: Free data and airtime?
Cell C prepaid customers are reporting on the MyBroadband forums that the operator has launched a promotion that offers 10 megabytes (MB) of data for every R1 recharged.
According to one user, Cell C announced the promotion to users with the following SMS: “Get 10MB Data + 1SMS for every R1 u recharge. Min recharge of R50 to qualify. The more u recharge the more u get. Max 100SMS & 1000MB p/week.” At least two users have confirmed the promotion, with one saying they were able to make use of it on their “Smartdata” prepaid package.
In addition to the R50 minimum (and R100 maximum), it was also reported that the recharge rewards expire every Sunday.
MyBroadband was also able to verify with a Cell C prepaid SIM that recharging with R50 prompted the following SMS from Cell C:
“Thanks for recharging. We have added 50 Cell C to Cell C minutes, 50 SMSs and 500 MB to your account that you can use until MIDNIGHT ON SUNDAY”.
A balance check confirmed that the amounts had been credited.
Cell C was asked for feedback about this promotion, but the company did not respond to requests for comment and their call centre was unaware of the promotion.
