Vodacom service problems explained

Summary: Home Location Register downtime left Vodacom subscribers in various parts of the country without cellular services on Friday morning (23 September 2011).

Numerous Vodacom subscribers reported problems with their voice and data services this morning.

The complaints came from consumers across the country, including Durban, Johannesburg, Centurion and Heidelberg.

Vodacom spokesperson Richard Boorman explained that one of the company’s Home Location Registers (HLR) experienced downtime from around 08:00 this morning which left subscribers using this register without cellular services.

The problem was resolved at around 09:00, after which subscribers starting coming back online.

Boorman advised anyone who is still struggling with access to the Vodacom network to switch their phone off and on again, which should restore full access to the network.
