MTN data problems explained

Many MTN subscribers in the Randburg, Sandton and Illovo areas experienced problems with the operator’s data services on Monday.  Users in these areas reported that the service was unavailable since early morning, something which was confirmed by MTN.

MTN said in a statement that it ran an update on one of their switches in the Randburg and surrounding areas late on Sunday 30 November, and that this has had an impact on some of their data users in those areas.

“MTN is currently in the process of resolving the problem and estimates that this impact will be resolved within the next two hours,” said Sameer Dave, Chief Technology Officer of MTN SA at around 16:00 on Monday.

“MTN advises that there will still be some congestion on the network but assures its customers that this will ease within the next two hours.  MTN advises its customers to disconnect and then reconnect. “

MTN apologized to its customers for any inconvenience caused and assured them that the problem will be resolved as quickly and efficiently as possible, to restore quality service once again.
