Vodacom recently unveiled its summer promotion which provides double value to customers who purchase a variety of products and services including talk time, data, SMS and MMS. The promotion will run from 01 November to 14 December 2012.
However, Vodacom subscribers who would like to take advantage of the ‘Double your Summer’ promotion will be well advised to familiarize themselves with the terms and conditions of the promotion.
Here are some of the key terms and conditions listed by Vodacom (VC).
VC: Customers who participate in this promotion will not be entitled to refunds for any reason whatsoever related to this promotion, and waive all their rights in this regard.
In short: If you do not get what was promised, hard luck.
VC: Prepaid and Top Up customers who recharge with R29 or more will receive the equivalent amount of free Vodacom to Vodacom minutes. The free minutes will be for Vodacom-to-Vodacom calls only, and is only valid until midnight the following day from date of recharge. The minutes are consumed on a per minute basis.
In short: You can only call other Vodacom numbers with the free minutes, and you better do it within one day, otherwise your free minutes will expire.
VC: Any once-off recharges below R29 will not earn free minutes. Accumulated recharges do not qualify for free minutes.
In short: If you are a prepaid Vodacom customer, you better save up and recharge with at least R29 to get any benefit from this promotion.
VC: Prepaid and Top Up customers will be required to activate Double your Talk once in order to receive free minutes during the promotion.
In short: You will not get anything unless you jump through a hoop or two as required by Vodacom.
VC: The following services and customer types are excluded from the promotion: Voice and Data contracts (in bundle monthly subscription), Top Up data contracts (in bundle monthly subscription), Contract, Top Up and Prepaid once-off bundles, All Messenger tariff plans, Corporate APN customers, SP Incentive bundles, Airtime and bundle transfers, Talking Points bundles and Internet Daily bundles.
In short: A lot of people will not qualify for Vodacom’s Double your Summer promotion.
VC: Customers will not receive a promotional benefit on their core bundles including More Minute bundles as these form part of their core price plan offering (monthly subscription service).
In short: You will not score for just paying your regular Vodacom bills
VC: If a Prepaid or Top Up customer with free minutes migrates to Contract, they will forfeit their free minutes. Should a Contract customer migrate to Top Up or Prepaid, any remaining promotional bundles will be forfeited.
In short: Stay put on your current prepaid, top up or contract if you want to make the most of the double your summer promotion.
Vodacom does not explain
Vodacom was asked why their subscribers are required to activate Double your Talk to receive free minutes during the promotion (hence, why are subscribers not automatically getting these benefits), but the company did not answer this question by the time of publication.
Vodacom also did not answer questions as to why data-only contract customers will not receive any promotional benefit.
