Rumour has it that Cell C has been trying to put together a deal with First National Bank (FNB) to launch an FNB-branded cellphone business on th Cell C network, the Business Times reported today (21 July 2013).
Neither outgoing FNB CEO Michael Jordaan, nor Cell C CEO Alan Knott-Craig were willing to comment about the deal, Business Times reported.
However, according to the paper, Knott-Craig said a bank becoming a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) was not far-fetched.
MyBroadband reported in June 2013 that two independent sources had confirmed that FNB and Cell C are in discussions about an MVNO agreement.
According to the sources, a positive outcome from the discussions is likely.
