Western Digital has purchased cloud services provider Upthere for an undisclosed amount.

Upthere provides consumer cloud storage, with support for multiple operating systems – including iOS, Android, macOS, and Windows.

The cloud storage company previously raised $77 million in funding from prominent investors, including Western Digital Ventures and KPCB.

Western Digital’s Cloud Services business will be headed up by ex-IronKey vice president Barbara Nelson, while Upthere CEO Chris Bourdon will join the Western Digital team as a strategic leader.

“I am confident that, together, we will continue to innovate cloud-based services with the potential to revolutionise how consumers and businesses create, manage, and keep their important data,” said Bourdon.
