Apple reveals iPad mini 3
Following reported leaks about Apple’s new iPad Air and iPad mini, the US company has officially unveiled the latest version of its smaller tablet.
At a press event on Thursday, 16 October 2014, Apple showed off its new iPad mini 3, which is set to go on sale (pre-order) Stateside from Friday, 17 October.
Not much time at the Apple event was dedicated to the mini 3, with a brief announcement made about the tablet’s basic specs and pricing.
The iPad mini 3 will feature a 7.9-inch Retina display, 5MP iSight camera, and is capable of 1080p video recording.
The Wi-Fi + Cellular models of the mini 3 are priced as follows:
- iPad mini 3 16GB – $529
- iPad mini 3 64GB – $629
- iPad mini 3 128GB – $729
Apple opened the event with a look at back at the launch of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, which broke sales records for being the most ordered phone in 30 days. Apple also took the time to speak about its smart watch, and how it was being accepted by both the fashion and tech industry.
The Apple Watch is due to ship in “early 2015”, said Apple’s Tim Cook.
iOS 8.1 was discussed after the iPhone 6 and Apple Watch recap, with Apple promising the mobile operating system was shaped by customer feedback. iOS 8.1 will introduce Apple Pay to users, along with the return of Camera Roll. The mobile OS is due to launch Monday, 20 October.
OS X Yosemite was also given some time in the spotlight, and a beta of the operating system was reportedly already been requested by 1 million users. Yosemite was announced as available at the time of publication.
