Tablets in SA: pricing comparison
In late April 2011, the second iteration of Apple’s popular tablet computer, the iPad 2, went on sale in South Africa at prices that compare favourably with international standards.
As with most Apple launches there was a lot of hype surrounding the arrival of the iPad 2 in South Africa, but Apple is not the only show in town when it comes to tablet PCs.
Samsung, HTC, Acer, RIM, Motorola and many other hardware manufacturers have also thrown their hat into the ring with their own tablet devices.
Many of the new tablet devices run on Android, Google’s mobile operating system, and are already available in South Africa.
A criticism of many of the Android tablets is that their pricing is often higher than Apple’s iPad pricing for comparable hardware.
