Samsung announced in a press statement today (23 October 2013) that the Samsung Galaxy S4, S3, and Note 2 will be able to use the Galaxy Gear once the Android 4.3 “Jelly Bean” update is rolled out to them.

The Korean electronics manufacturer said it will also extend Galaxy Gear compatibility to other Galaxy devices through a separate software update beginning at the end of October 2013.

These devices include the Galaxy S4 mini, S4 Active, Mega 5.8, Mega 6.3, and S4 Zoom.

Software update schedules for each device will vary by country and carrier, Samsung said.

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Gear at the start of September and its international launch for the device kicked off from 25 September 2013.

At the South African launch event for the Note 3, Samsung announced that the Gear would be available locally during October 2013 at a recommended price of R4,599.
