HTC Vive virtual reality headset launch delayed
HTC will delay the launch of its virtual reality headset from “before the end of 2015” to April 2016.
Built in partnership with Valve, the HTC Vive was first unveiled on 1 March 2015.
HTC initially promised an aggressive launch schedule, with the developer version of the device meant to ship in May 2015. The commercial product was set to launch before the end of 2015.
Had HTC stuck to its launch timeline, its product would have been out before the Oculus Rift from Facebook and Sony’s Project Morpheus.
The first wave of developer editions of the HTC Vive only shipped to developers at the start of June, though.
In a blog post on its website, HTC said it will start the new year by making an additional 7,000 units available to developers.
