Intel lets ARM chipmakers use its 10nm manufacturing process
Intel will allow its Custom Foundry customers to manufacture ARM chips using the Intel 10nm process, the companies announced.
ARM said it is making its Artisan Physical IP available on the process as part of an ongoing collaboration.
“Optimising this technology for Intel’s 10nm process means that foundry customers can take advantage of the IP to achieve best-in-class for power-efficient, high-performance implementations of their designs for mobile and other consumer applications,” said Intel.
The ARM Artisan platform includes:
- High-performance and high-density logic libraries
- Memory compilers
- POP IP (for future ARM premium mobile cores)
Chips based on Intel’s 10nm process are expected to launch during 2017.
Intel’s 7th-generation CPUs – Kaby Lake – will be based on the current 14nm architecture.
