Samsung to launch 3D monitors in flagship display ranges
Samsung have announced their latest line up of 3D computer displays, HDTV/monitors and a Home Theatre projectors incorporating Samsung’s proprietary 3D technology available in 23- and 27-inch configurations.
“With the explosion in entertainment content from 3D films, television and video games and the increased availability of 3D capture devices like cameras and webcams, gamers, home entertainment enthusiasts and content creators are demanding more functionality from their display devices,” says Bennie Budler, product manager for IT products at Samsung Electronics SA.
“Consumers will not only enjoy the latest in Samsung display technology for the best possible 2D experience with the 7 and 9 Series monitors, they will also be able to enjoy a wide variety of native 3D content and, on some models, even watch 2D content in 3D thanks to Samsung’s real-time 2D to 3D conversion technology.”
Proprietary 3D technology
Samsung claims that it has reinvented the 3D monitor experience to allow its users to experience the wide variety of 3D content now available.
Unlike other 3D solutions, which Samsung says only works for video gaming, Samsung’s new 3D monitors and HDTV/monitors also allow users to enjoy 3D movies, 3D TV and user-created 3D content like 3D photos and 3D videos.
The 9 Series Monitor and the 7 and 9 Series HDTV/Monitors can automatically analyse and render 2D content in real-time to 3D, Samsung says. They add that it supports not only PC content, but also content from Blu-ray players, gaming consoles and set-top boxes.
The 7 and 9 Series feature a built-in glasses sync emitter, and they are packaged with a pair of 3D active-shutter glasses and middleware for 3D gaming.
Samsung promises the highest quality image, whether 2D or 3D, with its Ultra Clear Panel technology which they say combines the vibrancy of a glossy display while maintaining the ease of viewing afforded by an anti-glare matte finish. The LED-backlit panel boasts 100% sRGB coverage, for the most realistic colour reproduction.
In addition to these monitors, Samsung also announced the SP-A8000 3D projector. According to Samsung the device is for home users looking to enjoy 3D in a group setting. The 1,000 ANSI lumen SP-A8000 features a single-bulb, single-lens design which also benefits from Samsung’s 3D engine and can convert 2D content to 3D, affording a realistic image and genuine 3D end result.

These products are expected to be available in South Africa during Q2, 2011.
