Raspberry Pi Compute Module getting big upgrade
The Raspberry Pi Compute Module is getting a big upgrade, with its processor set to be replaced by the same chip used in the Raspberry Pi 3.
According to a post on the Raspberry Pi site, the original Compute Module was based around the BCM2835 processor of the original Raspberry Pi.
“We bring you the shiny new Compute Module 3 (CM3) – providing twice the RAM and roughly 10x the CPU performance of the original Module,” stated the site.
The company said there will be two versions of the Compute Module 3:
- Standard CM3 – BCM2837 processor up to 1.2GHz, 1GB RAM, 4GB eMMC flash.
- Compute Module 3 Lite – BCM2837 processor up to 1.2GHz, 1GB RAM, SD card interface.
“We are also releasing an updated version of our get-you-started breakout board, the Compute Module IO Board V3 (CMIO3).”
The CM3 and CM3L are priced at $30 and $25 respectively, excluding taxes.
