AMD has unveiled its new Naples processor aimed at disrupting the high-performance server market.

Naples boasts a scalable design, featuring 32 physical cores with two high-performance threads per processor and support for up to 32 DIMM memory modules in a dual-socket server.

The chip is manufactured on a 14nm process and is based on AMD’s Zen microarchitecture.

“Today marks the first major milestone in AMD reasserting its position as an innovator in the datacentre and returning choice to customers in high-performance server CPUs,” said AMD.

“Naples represents a completely new approach to supporting the massive processing requirements of the modern datacentre.”

The first processors are scheduled to be available in Q2 2017.
