Facebook Slideshow low-bandwidth visual ad launched

Facebook Web

Facebook has announced the launch of Slideshow, a new ad format which is meant to offer an alternative to video ads in bandwidth-strapped countries.

A new tool in Facebook’s Ad Manager lets businesses create a slideshow from their own set of photos, or from stock images.

From there it works like any other ad on the platform, Facebook said.

These slideshows are far smaller than videos, making the experience better for users on 2G connections.

Facebook said it conducted successful beta tests of the new Slideshow ad format with companies that ran campaigns in developing and developed markets.

Asked whether the Slideshow feature would be limited to advertisers only, or whether users would be able to make slideshows too, Facebook said “stay tuned”.
