Facebook launches GIF button in comments
Facebook has launched support for animated GIF images in comments via a button.
This comes on the 30th anniversary of the introduction of an enhanced version of the format to Compuserve.
TechCrunch reported that the new feature takes the form of a GIF button that lets you search for an image to post.
The platform has supported GIFs for two years, but required users to provide an external URL to the image.
Facebook’s Messenger service also supports the format, and the company said almost 13 billion GIFs were sent on Messenger over the past year.
New Year’s Day 2017 saw 400 million GIFs posted on Messenger.
