Internet radio boost
Radio fans will be pleased to hear that Tivoli Networks Radio will be launching its Internet radio music system in SA this month.
Historically, Internet radio has been limited to listening with a computer or laptop, but the Tivoli NetWorks radio combines both traditional FM radio and Internet radio into one unit.
NetWorks is a compact, high-quality radio system that combines the best of both worlds when it comes to radio. In addition to a powerful FM radio tuner, the Tivoli NetWorks also plugs directly into an ADSL line, or connects via a Wi-Fi connection, to download and stream thousands of pre-programmed and programmable Internet radio stations from all around the world.
TAD South Africa managing director, Mark Hecht, says that "consumers are spoilt for choice when it comes to radio stations that are available over the Internet. The Internet has thousands of radio stations that cover every genre of music from all corners of the globe."
"But consumers don’t necessarily want to be tied to their laptops or have to figure out how to stream their favourite station to different parts of the house. This is exactly what the engineers at Tivoli Audio were thinking when they designed NetWorks."
According to Tom DeVesto, chairman and CEO of Tivoli Audio, the biggest challenge that Tivoli faced when designing NetWorks was to make it as elegant and user-friendly as Tivoli Audio’s existing products. "The technology behind the device is quite sophisticated," he says. "But by no means do you need to be a computer expert to use it."
NetWorks comes preset with five news and music stations so that you can instantly start enjoying content from around the world. You can then quickly search for Internet stations, by location, genre or station identity anywhere in the world, and then, if you want to, save your selections in a "Favourites" list. No computer or extra equipment is needed.
The unit also doubles as a media gateway, allowing access to music stored on PCs from any room in the house via a wireless or Ethernet connection. The device is fully compatible with MP3, WMA and RealAudio media files and features a wide range of inputs.
Also included is a USB input to connect a compatible MP3 player or memory stick.
For the critical listener looking to get the most from their music, there is the option to purchase the Model CD and the Model Sub which turns NetWorks into a full-featured, high-powered component music system that delivers crystal-clear sound, with style to match.
Elegant, simple and technologically advanced, NetWorks is available on its own for a recommended retail price of R7 500.
