Telkom Internet subscriber concern

Telkom FTTH

Telkom unveiled its interim results for the six months ended 30 September 2012, revealing that the number of Internet all access subscribers declined by 7.3% over the last year.

According to Telkom’s interim results, the company currently has 516,423 Telkom Internet ADSL, ISDN, WiMAX and dial-up subscribers – down from 556,886 a year ago.

This decline comes despite the continued growth of ADSL lines, which is a sign of increased competition from service providers like MWEB, Web Africa, Afrihost, Vox Telecom, Internet Solutions and Cybersmart.

Telkom Internet’s competitors have been driving down ADSL prices for many years, and the fact that Telkom Internet was a latecomer in the uncapped ADSL market may have been one of the reasons for its declining numbers.
