.Joburg domain passed
The .Joburg generic top-level domain (gTLD) was passed without contention by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) on Friday (31 May 2013).
UniForum SA (NPC), trading as ZA Central Registry, applied for the .Joburg domain, which has now passed the “Initial Evaluation” phase.
The Initial Evaluation phase includes background screening, string similarity, DNS stability, geographic names, registry services and the technical capabilities of the applicant.
The .Joburg application now moves to the pre-delegation phase (in the case where no objections were filed or string contention concerns raised), which can take around 2 months to complete.
Other prominent gTLDs which have been passed in this phase include .music, .careers, .hotels, .game, .fashion, .law, .pay, .love, .art, .vodka and .pizza.
