Microsoft backs Windows 8 power
In preparation for the launch of Windows 8, Microsoft has explained the key improvements to the latest entry of its long-running operating system.
Written by group program manager at Microsoft’s graphics team, Rob Copeland, the blog post explains that Windows 8 “builds on the well-established foundations of DirectX graphics” in Windows 7.
“In Windows 7, we expanded the capabilities of DirectX to provide a common hardware-accelerated graphics platform for a broader range of applications. Whereas previously, DirectX mainly provided 3-D graphics, we added functionality for what we call ‘mainstream’ graphics”, said Copeland on the official Microsoft blog.
Copeland further explained that key focuses of Windows 8 include:
• Internet Explorer 9 as a starting point;
• Text acceleration;
• Geometry rendering;
• Image rendering;
• Using Direct3D 11.1 as a common foundation.
