WhatsApp not that private
The Electronic Frontier Foundation’s (EFF) latest report on data collection shows that WhatsApp does not “have your back”.
WhatsApp failed to score in the “Follows industry-accepted best practices”, “Tells users about government data demands”, and “Discloses policies on data retention” sections of the report.
Information on “Discloses government content removal requests” was not available, while the messaging app did receive a gold star for “Pro-user public policy: opposes backdoors”.
Companies which scored top marks in the report included:
- Adobe
- Apple
- Dropbox
- Wikimedia
- WordPress
- Yahoo
The EFF’s “Who Has Your Back” report is detailed in the infographic below.
