AARTO website hacked

Cyber Government online security privacy

The website for Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (AARTO) has been hacked and as of this morning (24 April 2013) displays a screen announcing the fact.

According to the hacker’s calling card, they go by the name “rEd X” and is “proud to be a Bangladeshi hacker”.

The hacker goes on to admonish the website administrators: “Dear admin, secure your site!”

According to the hacker’s report, the webserver was running Linux and Apache, and based on the most recently cached version of the site in Google Cache, the site website itself was built using the Joomla! content management system.

This hack on the AARTO website follows a spate of incidents on South African government websites.

Websites for the Presidential National Commission (PNC), the National Population Unit, and the Department of Social Development were hacked last year.

A spokesperson for the Road Traffic Infringement Agency was not immediately available for comment.
