Android 5.0 Lollipop launch window announced

Google has designated the “L-edition” of Android as version 5.0, and named it “Lollipop”.
In a post on the Google blog, the search giant re-iterated that Lollipop is its largest, most ambitious release of Android with over 5,000 new application programming interfaces for developers.
“Lollipop is designed to be flexible, to work on all your devices and to be customised for you the way you see fit,” wrote Sundar Pichai, head of Android, Chrome and apps at Google.
Google first previewed the new version of Android towards the end of June 2014, where it referred to it only as the “L release” of Android.
Among the new features shown was a new design Google called “Material design”, which it said draws inspiration from paper and ink to bring depth to the Android user experience.
Google also showed off new notification handling and lock screen authentication features, and promised performance and battery improvements.
Android 5.0 Lollipop will be rolling out to Nexus 4, 5, 7, 10, and Google Play edition devices in the coming weeks and will launch on the Nexus 6, 9, and Nexus Player, Pichai said.
