New Windows 10 Mobile test build released

Windows 10 Photos App

Those on the fast ring of Microsoft’s Windows Insider programme will soon receive a new preview build for Windows 10 Mobile.

To update to Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview Build 10536, preview build users will have to update their devices twice: once for Build 10514, and for Build 10536.1000.

After these updates have been completed, the latest update will be available.

Rolling back to Windows Phone 8.1 first lets you update directly to Build 10536.1004.

Microsoft highlighted the following improvements in the new preview:

  • Insider Hub is included.
  • Mobile hotspot functionality has been fixed.
  • Voice input has been updated to support Japanese and English (India) speech recognition.
  • Single hop updates are again available from Windows Phone 8.1 to Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview.
  • Two-factor authentication is fixed when setting up a device for both text and phone authentication.
  • Start screen will successfully load instead of failing with “Loading …” displayed in a loop until device was rebooted. (Microsoft said it is still tracking down an issue were it may show “Loading …” for a few seconds.)
  • Quiet Hours / Do Not Disturb has been fixed.
  • Delay in showing date and time on Lock screen has been improved.
  • Pinch and zoom in Maps now works as expected.

Microsoft has also updated the Photos app, including a folder view, context menus, and faster zooming and panning. These features will roll out to the PC version soon.

One-handed mode for Windows 10 Mobile has also been unlocked to work on any screen size.

There are still a number of camera issues with the Lumia 1020, and Microsoft said to get all of the features of the camera back, including 41MP capture and DNG files, users will need the Lumia Camera app.

This will be released between September – November 2015.
