Android N features, release window detailed
The next version of Android – currently code-named Android N – has been detailed by Google.
The mobile OS will improve the graphics and runtime of previous versions of Android, and introduce the Vulkan graphics API. This should deliver better graphics with more efficiency.
The compiler in Android N also works faster than previous versions of Android, and will reduce the space required to install apps on your smartphone.
Split-screen and picture-in-picture modes will be available in Android N, while notifications will receive an update allowing users to quick-reply to messages without having to open an app.
New emoji, and a VR mode – which forms part of Google’s Daydream platform – are also among the 250 new features and enhancements coming to the next version of Android.
Android N is due to be released in the coming months.
