Chrome 55 for Android rolling out

Android

The new version of Chrome for Android – which adds downloading pages for offline viewing – is rolling out, 9to5Google reported.

The new features for Google’s mobile browser were announced in September and the new version of Chrome for Windows, Mac, and Linux has been out since November.

9to5Google reported that you can find a new save icon at the top of the overflow menu to save full web pages.

Audio and video player controls will feature a save icon next to the scrubber to initiate the background download.

All saved content and media is organised in a new “Downloads” screen, which can be found in Chrome’s overflow menu.

Chrome 55 for Android also promises to run better on RAM-strapped devices.

With JavaScript heap size reduction and zone memory reduction, devices with 512MB of RAM or less will see up to 35% less memory usage.

More-powerful devices will also benefit from zone memory reduction, due to lower memory consumption during background parsing.
