Google launches Android Things – an OS for IoT
Google has launched Android Things, an operating system for the Internet of Things.
The platform will let users “build connected devices while leveraging Android APIs and the company’s cloud-based services for delivering updates and enabling voice commands”, reported The Next Web.
The report stated that Google is combining Brillo with Android Studio, the Android SDK, Google Play Services, and Google Cloud Platform.
Google is also including support for Weave, its IoT communications platform.
Systems which already use Weave include Philips Hue and Samsung SmartThings.
“Get started now with the Developer Preview, so you can start designing and developing your own products. We will be providing regular updates with new features, and a long-term support release for commercialisation in the coming months,” said Google.
