Android O promises better battery life
Google has unveiled the developer preview of Android O, which introduces a number of new features and APIs.
“Building on the work we began in Nougat, Android O puts a big priority on improving a user’s battery life and the device’s interactive performance,” said Google.
To make this possible, Android puts automatic limits on what apps can do in the background, in three main areas: implicit broadcasts, background services, and location updates.
“These changes will make it easier to create apps that have minimal impact on a user’s device and battery,” said Google.
Android O also introduces new notification channels, autofill APIs, font resources in XML, adaptive icons, Java 8 Language APIs and runtime optimisations, WebView enhancements, AAudio API for Pro Audio, and Wi-Fi Aware.
