Apple in massive iPhone app crackdown

In the lead up to the launch of iOS 11, Apple has removed hundreds of thousands of clones, spamware, 32-bit apps, and other software from its App Store, Apple Insider reported.

According to the report, Apple’s App Review Guidelines previously allowed apps created using template or app generation services.

This changed in the latest version of the guidelines, and Apple used the new rules to aggressively go after copycat apps on its marketplace.

The new rule reads: “Apps created from a commercialized template or app generation service will be rejected.”

Apple is using the same rule to take down spam apps, and apps that push pirated content.

It is also rejecting titles which show no recent download activity in an effort to tackle abandoned apps.
